Ombré Lights Take Three

So this is a little bit embarrassing but I've tried going ombre three times now and while the first time turned out ok, the 2nd time was horrific. For my third time, I went to a woman who's been doing my hair since I was really young. She was the one who dyed my hair blonde and fixed all my hair color botches. My hair really is very tough to handle-- from the nappy texture to the thickness, it's definitely got a mind of it's own. Luckily of me, this lady knew how to tame the beast!

Here is my inspiration. (I always try to bring in a photo to show but I feel like they never come out exact)

Miz Simpson's do calls for dark dark roots and super light ends. A more dramatic ombré do from I've attempted so far.

This is what I walked out with. I was initially freaking out a bit. The colors look so drastic. Could be the fact that she straightened my hair or maybe as I washed it the top lightened but after I washed and styled it myself, the colors are less drastic.

See! It actually flows pretty nicely. Only bad thing is that it brings out the dryness in the super dry hair. I'm now shopping around door a good restoration conditioner and am using my MorroccanOil habitually.

Just a little life update for you guys... I've got quite a week coming up. This Friday is my company's annual kickball game. Not sure how actively I'm looking to participate, there is a good chance that I'll be stationed by the beer and the food. 😄 Then on Saturday, La Dubs and I will be attending his cousin's wedding. I love weddings and almost always cry/tear up! Then we will be hitting up the California State Fair on Sunday.

As for today? I'm going to watch Magic Mike with the girls. You better bet that we'll be hootin' & hollarin'.

Foodielicious pt. 1

I've really been trying to tone down with eating out lately to help adjust to healthier eating habits and save money. This week though, I had a dinner date with my dear middle school friend who will be moving on to medical school as well as a dinner date for two with La Dubs.

Here is part one of my foodielicious adventure! Commonwealth has been on my list of to try for quite some time and I'm glad to say that it lived up to my expectations. The decor was simple, airy and bright. Nothing too over the top or snooty.

We started out with the complimentary homemade chips with nori powder-- which I just couldn't get enough of. It was served with some sort of foamy dip that I didn't quite get or cared for. I was happy munching the chips on its own.

We started with,
shishito peppers, goat cheese mousse, rose
crispy rabbit rillettes, brik pastry, peach mostarda.
I wasn't exactly a fan of the rabbit rillettes but I loved the shishito peppers.

And had the
halibut poached in coconut milk, potato, little gems, padron peppers, rose geranium
grilled beef heart, sprouting broccoli, daikon radish, ramps, black garlic, kimchee
for our entrees. The halibut is so good and so soft that it reminded us of crabmeat!

Everything was delicious but I especially loved the halibut and the beef hearts. It was definitely a great catch up date with my friend.

And just an update, last week has officially become my best foodie week ever-- by the end of the week, I managed to knock out 3 Yelp bookmarks in the span of a week!

Lake Berryessa and Leopard Nails

Over the weekend the gang and I made a short day trip to Lake Berryessa-- about an hour and a half north of San Francisco. We rented a boat, three jet skis and brought a feast.

Mr. Dubs brought his famous artichoke dip and I felt compelled to make something of my own since I never bring anything homemade to potlucks. Inspired by pinterest (@tiffabulously) I decided to make these rainbow fruit skewers. Even though it didn't turn out quite as nicely as my inspiration, I think I did a fairly decent job!

We woke up at the crack of dawn and met up at 7AM so start our adventurous day.

Here is a shot of our cute little boat equipped with a sound system and a barbeque grill.

Here are two of the boys and Alice on the jetski. At first I thought that this was a pic of three boys on one jetski. Not that Alice looks anything like a boy just that I wouldn't be surprised if our silly boys decided to fit three on one jetski... even if we did have three jetskis rented!

Here I am camwhoring with La Dubs and the girls!

This is my favorite picture of the day.

I borrowed my mom's fancy visor. Hehe. I don't want anymore ugly tan lines!

Isn't the lake so gorg? It's hard to believe that we were merely an hour and a half away from foggy metropolitan San Francisco. I felt like I was in a whole different world! (and yes Alice, if you're reading this, I stole the picture of the lake from you!)

Oh and to sneak in a nail pic, here's my latest and greatest-- creamsicle leopard print. I actually have been searching high and low for a color like this and no Essie or OPI filled the void. This is called "Apricot Pastry" from Revlon's scented line. It was nice that the usual headache inducing nail polish scent was replaced by a sweet apricot smell. It actually lasted a good two days. I'm on day two and there is still a faint smell!

That's it for now! Happy hump day!
